EAT RIGHT

8 Ways to Eat Right in 2008
In January we generally start to receive our tax statements and recap the financial year as we prepare to do our taxes. This often means planning financially for the coming year. Why not review your health and nutrition habits from the past year just as you review your income and your spending?
Begin by asking yourself these questions:
• Do you find yourself unprepared to have a good lunch or dinner most days?
• Do you leave the house in the morning without having had breakfast?
• Do you continually buy produce only to have it spoil before you eat it?
• Do you run out of fruit and vegetables halfway through the week?
• Do you have a medical condition that would improve if you eat right and live well?
• Are there days when you don’t eat a fruit, a vegetable or a whole grain?
If you find yourself answering “yes” to any of these questions, you need to make a plan to improve your daily food intake. Pick one or more of these 8 strategies to eat right in 2008:
1. Plan your meals in advance
2. Purchase enough wholesome food for the week
3. Pick fruits and vegetables in a variety of colors
4. Peek into the refrigerator at least once a day to see what foods need to be incorporated into your meals that day
5. Prepare ingredients or meals ahead to avoid last-minute impulsive food choices
6. Present food in a gracious way and enjoy it with those you love
7. Pass on seconds (put away leftovers before starting to eat)
8. Put the emphasis on the quality as well as the quantity of what you eat
Wishing you a whole & healthy New Year!
